World Population Day
What You Should Know? World Population Day is observed on 11th July every year. It was established in 1989 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The observance was inspired by Five Billion Day (11 July 1987), when the global population reached 5 billion. The first World Population Day was celebrated on July 11, 1990, with participation from over 90 countries. It raises awareness on population issues, reproductive health, and gender equality. The theme for 2025 was “Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world.” The focus in 2025 is on youth empowerment, reproductive agency, and equal healthcare access. India is the most populous country in the world as of 2025. The population is expected to reach 8.5 billion by 2030 and 9.7 billion by 2050.
