White Revolution 2.0
Context:
Launched in September 2024, White Revolution 2.0 is a comprehensive joint initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Cooperation and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
The program reflects the government's commitment to empowering uncovered Panchayats through a robust cooperative model
Key Objectives and Targets:
The initiative envisions the massive creation of 75,000 new Dairy Cooperative Societies over a five-year period.
A primary operational objective is to increase the total milk procurement of dairy cooperatives by 50% over the next five years.
The framework heavily emphasizes expanding cooperative coverage, enhancing direct market access, generating rural employment, and actively promoting women's empowerment.
India's Global Dairy Standing:
India has successfully maintained its position as the world's largest producer of milk since 1998.
Currently, India's domestic dairy sector contributes approximately 25% of the total global milk output.
Supporting Schemes and Interventions:
Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM):
Implemented since December 2014, this mission drives breed improvement and productivity enhancement through the deployment of advanced technologies, including sex-sorted semen and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP):
This program provides for prophylactic vaccination against animal diseases, disease surveillance, and the overall strengthening of veterinary infrastructure.
Pashu Aushadhi:
A recently added component under the LHDCP scheme, it is designed to ensure the widespread availability of affordable, high-quality generic veterinary medicines across the country through Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PM-KSK) and local Cooperative Societies.
