  • Context:  

  • The Second World Summit for Social Development is being held in Doha, Qatar 

  •  Union Minister for Labour & Employment attended the inaugural plenary session and addressed a High-Level Round Table at the summit 

  • About the Summit: 

  • The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), through its resolutions 78/261 and 78/318, decided to convene the summit 

  • The summit is convening at the level of Heads of State or Government 

  • It includes events like the High-Level Round Table, which serves as an open, multi-stakeholder exchange 

  • Key Aims and Objectives: 

  • The primary aim is to address gaps and recommit to the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and its Programme of Action 

  • The summit also seeks to give momentum towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda 

  • The High-Level Round Table aims to identify priorities for action that accelerate progress on the three core commitments of the Copenhagen Declaration.These are as follows:- 

  • Poverty Eradication 

  • Full and Productive Employment and Decent Work for All 

  • Social Inclusion
