Why it Matters? 

  • The PM Vishwakarma Scheme has empowered 30 lakh artisans with skill training, toolkits, and affordable loans. Over 26 lakh have completed training, and ₹41,188 crore in loans have been approved, boosting traditional trades and promoting digital transactions. 

What You Should Know? 

  • The PM Vishwakarma Scheme was launched on 17 September 2023. 

  • It supports traditional artisans and craftsmen across India who work with their hands.  

  • The Scheme covers artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 trades including Carpenter, Boat Maker, Armourer, Blacksmith etc.  

  • Artisans receive collateral-free loans at low interest rates. 

  • Incentives are given for digital transactions to promote cashless payments. 

  • It focuses on women, marginalized groups, and underserved regions. 

  • The Ministry of MSME, Skill Development, and Finance jointly implement it. 

  • Skill Upgradation include basic Training of 5-7 days and Advanced Training of 15 days or more, with a stipend of Rs. 500 per day.
