Why it Matters?
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme has empowered 30 lakh artisans with skill training, toolkits, and affordable loans. Over 26 lakh have completed training, and ₹41,188 crore in loans have been approved, boosting traditional trades and promoting digital transactions.
What You Should Know?
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme was launched on 17 September 2023.
It supports traditional artisans and craftsmen across India who work with their hands.
The Scheme covers artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 trades including Carpenter, Boat Maker, Armourer, Blacksmith etc.
Artisans receive collateral-free loans at low interest rates.
Incentives are given for digital transactions to promote cashless payments.
It focuses on women, marginalized groups, and underserved regions.
The Ministry of MSME, Skill Development, and Finance jointly implement it.
Skill Upgradation include basic Training of 5-7 days and Advanced Training of 15 days or more, with a stipend of Rs. 500 per day.
