Context: The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, extended his greetings on the occasion of National Technology Day. 

Important Pointers:  

Observed on: 11th May annually.  ► Declared by: Then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1998.  ► First Celebrated: In 1999.  ► Organised by: Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology (DST).  ► Purpose: To celebrate India’s achievements in science, technology, and innovation. 

Key Historical Milestones – 11th May 1998 

Pokhran-II Nuclear Tests under Operation Shakti, making India a nuclear weapons state.  ► First flight of Hansa-3, an indigenously developed light aircraft, at Bengaluru.  ► Successful test of Trishul Missile, a short-range surface-to-air missile by DRDO.
