Context: India’s recent defence agreements with key global partners like the U.S., Russia, France, and Israel reflect a strategic shift toward enhanced military capability, interoperability, and self-reliance, as seen in the backdrop of operations like Operation Sindoor. 

Important Pointers: 

India–Russia Defence Cooperation: 

  • Procurement of advanced weapon systems, including the S-400 Triumf air defence system, Barak 8 MRSAM, and indigenous Akash missiles. 

  • Agreements for the supply and licensed production of MiG-29 fighter aircraft, Kamov helicopters, T-90 tanks, Su-30MKI fighters, AK-203 assault rifles, and BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.  

India–United States Defence Agreements: 

  • COMCASA (Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement): Facilitates secure communication and interoperability between the Indian and U.S. armed forces. 

  • LEMOA (Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement): Allows mutual logistical support between the two militaries.
