The first aircraft from this new line was also flagged off, marking a step towards faster delivery to the Indian Air Force (IAF)
Key Features
Type: 4.5-generation single-engine, multi-role light combat aircraft (LCA).
Mk1A is an advanced iteration of the indigenous Tejas platform.
It was conceived, developed, and produced domestically through collaboration between HAL, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), DRDO, and the IAF.
It is described as a modern, advanced aircraft showcasing India's technological prowess.
Significance
The Mk1A is highlighted as a prime example of India's growing self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in defence manufacturing.
Reflects shift from import dependence (65–70%) a decade ago to 65% domestic defence production now.
Its production signifies a major shift from importing critical military hardware to manufacturing it domestically.
Replaces older aircraft such as MiG-21, enhancing operational readiness.
