  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 3rd production line of LCA Tejas Mk1A at HAL’s Nashik facility on 17 October 2025.  

  • The first aircraft from this new line was also flagged off, marking a step towards faster delivery to the Indian Air Force (IAF) 

  • Key Features 

  • Type: 4.5-generation single-engine, multi-role light combat aircraft (LCA)

  • Mk1A is an advanced iteration of the indigenous Tejas platform. 

  • It was conceived, developed, and produced domestically through collaboration between HAL, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), DRDO, and the IAF

  • It is described as a modern, advanced aircraft showcasing India's technological prowess. 

  • Significance 

  • The Mk1A is highlighted as a prime example of India's growing self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in defence manufacturing. 

  • Reflects shift from import dependence (65–70%) a decade ago to 65% domestic defence production now. 

  • Its production signifies a major shift from importing critical military hardware to manufacturing it domestically. 

  • Replaces older aircraft such as MiG-21, enhancing operational readiness.
