Context:
The Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the first Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) Awards for 2025
The awards will be conferred by the Hon'ble President of India on November 18, 2025, in New Delhi, alongside the 6th National Water Awards 2025
About the Initiative
The JSJB 1.0 is a flagship community-driven program
It is under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan:Catch the Rain (JSA:CTR) campaign.
It was launched by the Prime Minister on September 6, 2024, in Surat, Gujarat.
It is nspired by the vision of Jan Shakti for Jal Shakti
It seeks to conserve water with a strong emphasis on community partnership and ownership.
Approach and Guiding Principles
The initiative is guided by a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach
It is driven by the 3Cs mantra:

It promotes participatory stewardship and sustainable water governance at the grassroots level
Targets and Structures
Under this initiative, districts are encouraged to construct a minimum of 10,000 artificial recharge and storage structures
The target is 3,000 for districts in North-Eastern and Hilly States
Municipal Corporations nationwide have a target of 10,000 structures
In partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) are motivated to construct at least 2,000 recharge structures each
The structures include those for rooftop rainwater harvesting and the rejuvenation of lakes, ponds, and stepwells
Against a target of 10 lakh structures, 27.6 lakh structures were reported within the timeline
