  • Context: 

  • The Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the first Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) Awards for 2025 

  • The awards will be conferred by the Hon'ble President of India on November 18, 2025, in New Delhi, alongside the 6th National Water Awards 2025 

  • About the Initiative 

  • The JSJB 1.0 is a flagship community-driven program 

  • It is under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan:Catch the Rain (JSA:CTR) campaign. 

  • It was launched by the Prime Minister on September 6, 2024, in Surat, Gujarat

  • It is nspired by the vision of Jan Shakti for Jal Shakti 

  • It seeks to conserve water with a strong emphasis on community partnership and ownership. 

  • Approach and Guiding Principles 

  • The initiative is guided by a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach 

  • It is driven by the 3Cs mantra:  

  • Community 

  • CSR 

  • Cost 

  • It promotes participatory stewardship and sustainable water governance at the grassroots level 

  • Targets and Structures 

  • Under this initiative, districts are encouraged to construct a minimum of 10,000 artificial recharge and storage structures 

  • The target is 3,000 for districts in North-Eastern and Hilly States 

  • Municipal Corporations nationwide have a target of 10,000 structures 

  • In partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) are motivated to construct at least 2,000 recharge structures each 

  • The structures include those for rooftop rainwater harvesting and the rejuvenation of lakes, ponds, and stepwells 

  • Against a target of 10 lakh structures, 27.6 lakh structures were reported within the timeline
