JAIMEX – 2025
Context:
The 2025 Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JAIMEX-25) is in the news as its sea phase concluded on October 18, 2025.
Following the sea drills, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sahyadri made a port call at Yokosuka, Japan, on October 21, 2025, to commence the harbour phase of the exercise.

Phases of the Exercise:
Sea Phase:
It was conducted from 16 to 18 October 2025.
Key activities included advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and missile defence drills, flying operations, and underway replenishment to enhance interoperability
Harbour Phase:
It commenced with a port call at Yokosuka, Japan, on 21 October 2025.
This phase involves professional and cultural exchanges, cross-deck visits, collaborative operational planning, sharing of best practices, and a combined Yoga session
Participants:
INS Sahyadri, which is an indigenously built Shivalik-class Guided Missile Stealth Frigate. It was commissioned in 2012.
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) includes ships Asahi, Oumi, and the Submarine Jinryu.
Strategic Significance:
The exercise underscores the strong Navy-to-Navy interactions that are part of the 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' established between India and Japan in 2014.
It is a crucial pillar for ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific maritime domain.
Both navies share a vision of a "free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region".
