Draft Rules for Four Labour Codes

The Union Labour Ministry has pre-published draft Rules for four Labour Codes, inviting public feedback.
The rules mandate a 48-hour work week and lay down specific provisions for gig workers, women working night shifts, and minimum wage calculations

Calculation of Minimum Wage:
For this family unit is defined as a standard working-class family comprising a spouse and two children, equivalent to three adult consumption units
Food net intake of 2,700 calories per day per consumption unit
Clothing is 66 metres of cloth per year
Housing rent expenditure calculated at 10% of food and clothing expenditure
Fuel and electricity at 20%, and children's education/medical needs at 25% of the minimum wage
Social Security and Welfare:
The National Social Security Board will include representatives of unorganised workers.
Five members representing gig and platform workers will be part of the Board on a rotation basis.
Creche Facilities are mandatory for every establishment with 50 or more employees for children under the age of six.
Women in Night Shifts:
Employers must obtain written consent from women employees.
Mandatory provision of adequate transportation and CCTV surveillance for safety
Industrial Relations:
The rules introduce a secret ballot system for the verification of trade unions
Fixed Term Employment is defined as engagement based on a written contract for a fixed period.
