Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926 in Sadiya, Assam.
He is known as the “Bard of Brahmaputra/Sudhakantha” for his contribution to Assamese music and culture.
His songs highlighted themes of humanism, social justice, and unity.
He served as Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi and was also elected as a Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly in 1967.
Hazarika received the Padma Shri (1977), Padma Bhushan (2001), and Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1992), and Bharat Ratna (2019).
