BHARATPOL Portal
  • Context:

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah has emphasized the need for better coordination to bring fugitives back to India.

  • He highlighted the role of INTERPOL notices and new digital platforms like BHARATPOL.

  • What is BHARATPOL?

  • BHARATPOL is a digital portal launched on January 7, 2025, by the union Home minister.

  • It's designed to assist Indian law enforcement agencies in seeking help from foreign law enforcement agencies in criminal matters.

  • The portal connects the CBI (acts as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India) with all law enforcement authorities across the country on a single platform.

  • Its key function is to tackle transnational organized crime, terrorism, economic fraud, and trafficking.

  • About INTERPOL Notices

  • INTERPOL Notices are international alerts used by police in member countries to share critical crime-related information.

  • Red Corner Notice:

  • This is an alert issued for fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence.

  • The Home Minister has directed that the process of seizing or cancelling a fugitive's passport should begin as soon as a Red Corner Notice is issued against them in order to curtail their international movement.

  • Blue Corner Notice:

  • This notice is used to collect additional information about a person’s identity, location, or activities in relation to a criminal investigation.

  • The Home Minister has called for a special campaign to convert existing Blue Corner Notices into Red Corner Notices to intensify efforts against fugitives.

  • Yellow Corner Notice: To help locate missing persons, often minors, or to help identify persons who are unable to identify themselves.
