Army radars
Why it matters?
Learning from the experience of Op Sindoor, the Army is acquiring upgraded radar systems to tackle swarms of low-cost drones with small radar signatures.
What you should know?
Radars being procured:
LLLWR(I) - Low Level Light Weight Radars (Improved) and LLLWR(E) - Low Level Light Weight Radars (Enhanced) are upgraded mobile surveillance radars specifically used to identify and track small, low-flying aerial threats.
ADFCR-DD - Air Defence Fire Control Radar- Drone Detectors which is a mobile fire control radar.
What is a Radar & how do they work?
It is a specialised electronic sys- tem that uses radio waves to determine the direction, distance and velocity of target objects.
RCS or radar signature: It is a measure of how detectable an object is by radar, usually represented in square metres; larger the RCS, greater the detectability.
