3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) & NGHM
Context:
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) hosted the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi
At the conference the Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy launched the official logo for the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).
India is on track to command 10% of the global green hydrogen demand by 2030.
National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM):
Objectives:
The NGHM envisions “making India energy-independent and decarbonising key sectors” through green hydrogen.
Develop India as a global hub for production and export of green hydrogen and derivatives.
Reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports.
Decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, fertilisers, refining, and transport
The NGHM was launched in 2023 with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore
It aims to accelerate India's clean energy shift, attract investments, and position India as a global hub for green hydrogen.
Thus, it It aligns with India’s Panchamrit commitments at COP-26 targets like:
500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030
Net-zero emissions by 2070
By 2030, the Mission will be supported by about 125 GW of new renewable energy capacity dedicated to green hydrogen production, along with investments exceeding ₹8 lakh crore.
New Initiatives & Mission Progress:
SIGHT Programme (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition)
₹17,000 crore incentive scheme for 8.62 lakh MTPA green hydrogen production.
Green Hydrogen Hubs: In October 2025, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced the recognition of three major ports as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the NGHM.
Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India (GHCI)
It provides a national framework to certify hydrogen as “green” by assessing its greenhouse gas emissions across the entire production cycle.
Nodal Authority: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) officially label as Green Hydrogen.
